Eye Infection/Injury

EyeDentity Eyecare + Eyewear provides emergency services for eye infections and injuries. We have specialized equipment that allows us to examine the front surface of the eye and surrounding areas to determine the nature of the infection or injury. After assessing the extent of the problem we will determine a treatment plan to ensure the proper care and healing of your eyes.

If you have an infection or injury, please contact our office immediately for advice. In certain extreme situations, it may be better to get to the hospital without taking the time to call.

Eye Injuries

Some eye injuries, such as deep puncture wounds from accidents, could require immediate treatment or surgery to prevent permanent eye damage resulting in vision loss. Minor corneal abrasions, on the other hand, may only need simple monitoring after your initial visit to ensure complications don’t arise.

Remember common sense safety precautions such as wearing safety goggles or glasses in potentially hazardous situations, as a best approach to preventing eye injuries.

Common Eye Injuries/Trauma:

  • Corneal abrasion (scratched eye);
  • Eye Laceration
  • Penetrating or foreign body in the eye
  • Chemical Burn (Foreign substance in the eye)
  • Subconjunctival Hemorrhage (Eye Bleeding)
  • Traumatic Iritis
  • Orbital Blowout Fractures
  • Hyphemas

Eye Infections

Any signs of infection along with a change in your vision need to be evaluated by a doctor. If untreated, some types of eye infections can damage the eye very quickly.

Infections can be more severe in people who wear contact lenses. If you think you may have an eye infection, remove your contacts and wear your glasses.

Common Eye Infections:

  • Conjunctivitis “Pink Eye” (inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye)
  • Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis “GPC” (inflammation/bumps on inner eyelid)
  • Blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid)
  • Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye)
  • Stye (blockage of the oil producing glands due to bacterial infections)
  • Corneal Ulcer (an open sore of the cornea)
  • Cellulitis (infection caused by bacteria that occurs around the eyelid)

Signs of an Eye Infection:

  • Pain in the eye;
  • Increased redness of the eye or eyelid;
  • Swelling around the eye or eyelids;
  • Foreign body sensation (feels like something is in the eye);
  • Photophobia (Increased light sensitivity);
  • Excess tearing and/or discharge from the eye;
